Dr. Melissa Johnson, founder of Sedonia Psychological Services, specializes in the following: • Anxiety and Depression • Resilience and Mental Fortitude in Military populations and Veterans • Women’s Health (e.g. Family Planning, Infertility, Life Transitions, etc.) • Relationship Issues & Couples Therapy
Dr. Johnson is an experienced clinician with nearly 20 years of clinical experience. She has been working with adults (18+) since 2004. The strength of her clinical background is rooted in her early work with the severely mentally ill. Over time she has expanded her base to include a variety of individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, emotional trauma, and relationship difficulty, as well as grief and loss. Her specialty lies in the areas of couple’s treatment, women’s health issues, as well as supporting our military servicemen/women and veterans. She has aided members of our armed forces in navigating the myriad complexities encountered during their service. As an Army psychologist, she works to bolster the psychological well-being and health of those defending our freedoms. Dr. Johnson is licensed in California. She focuses on assisting clients in identifying their strengths to promote resilience and growth toward a happier, more fulfilled life. She is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of Depression in Veteran populations. She also holds certification in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and utilizes this approach for the treatment of troubling incidents that interfere with one’s ability to live in peace.
Dr. Johnson grew up in California and earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine. She earned her Master’s and Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has worked in a variety of settings that include community mental health, skilled nursing facilities, inpatient hospitals, and legal settings. She recently co-authored a chapter in the Handbook on Counseling African American Women (2022). Her interests in the field of psychology are as all-embracing as her passion for people. Dr. Johnson leads an active life exploring picturesque California. In her down time, she enjoys the quiet and comforts of home with her family and beloved bulldog, Watson “Wiggle-Butt” Johnson.
